Body & Components

“Excellence is born in the laboratory”

By relying on teams of highly skilled technicians, CSI laboratories are able to support each and every stage of vehicle development, from development test plan (prototype stage, process checks, preliminary runs) drafting, through diagnosis and problem solving, up to product certification.

CSI laboratories can rely on full range of in-house equipment and structures as are necessary to evaluate and validate individual components and complex systems, and to integrate the latter into the vehicle.

Structural and Functional Validation

  • Validation of components such as interior/exterior trims, front-end, moving parts, body, suspension, mechatronic system and their integration into the vehicle.
  • Definition and update of testing standards for the validation of new systems and components.
  • Qualification of OE and aftermarket parts/systems.
  • Analysis and diagnosis of products undergoing development and returned from the network.
  • Testing and development of new solutions for the improvement of fatigue behaviour through the acquisition of characteristic signals (acceleration, deformation, vibration) on the vehicle, accelerated fatigue bench tests on systems and parts, performance assessment.
  • Management of complete testing plans  for body components and vehicle trim release purposes.

Homologation Tests

CSI is recognised as a Technical Service Organisation by the Irish Department of Transport (E24) and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure (E4), and hence carries out a dual function: working as a testing laboratory and as Ministerial office to supervise the release of homologation certificates. The testing modalities conform to the applicable regulations and, furthermore, may be conducted in the presence of officers from European Ministry of Transport or from other Technical Services.

The main items tested include:

  • Noise tests (ECE R51)
  • Fuel tanks (ECE R34)
  • Geometry and exterior fittings (ECE R26)
  • Interior fittings (ECE R21)
  • Rear registration plate installation (EU 1003/2010)
  • Light installation (ECE R48)
  • Front and rear fields of view (ECE R125 & R46)
  • Braking and stability systems (ECE R13H)
  • Spare tyre and TPMS (ECE R64)
  • Steering force (ECE R79)
  • Windscreen wash-wipe systems (EU 1008/2010)
  • Heating systems (ECE R122)
  • Demisting and defrosting (EU 672/2010)
  • Locks and hinges (ECE R11)
  • Steering wheels (ECE R12)
  • Labelling and marking (249/2012)
  • Speedometer and reverse gear (ECE R39)
  • Towing hook (EU 1005/2010)
  • Identification of controls (ECE R121)
  • Masses and dimensions (EU 1230/2012)
  • Wheel guards (EU 1009/2010)
