Noise, Vibration and Harshness Analysis for Automotive

CSI operates a state-of-the-art NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) laboratory for evaluating the vibro-acoustic performance of complete vehicles, supporting development and optimization in the automotive industry.

The lab features a chassis dynamometer inside a temperature-controlled semi-anechoic chamber, enabling highly repeatable and realistic testing conditions.

Full vehicle NVH testing

The control system allows simulation of multiple driving conditions:

  • Acceleration
  • Constant speed
  • Coastdown

With independent rollers, the test bench supports:

  • 2WD and 4WD vehicles
  • Motorcycles

Vibro-acoustic evaluation

NVH testing covers:

  • Interior and exterior vehicle noise
  • Intake and exhaust system noise
  • Acoustic comfort and perceived sound quality

CSI also provides:

  • Modal analysis on full vehicles, subsystems, and components
  • Support for performance optimization and development

CAE simulation and virtual testing

In synergy with its Virtual Testing division, CSI delivers NVH CAE simulations to predict structural and acoustic behavior:

Modeling levels:

  • Body in White (BIW)
  • Trimmed Body
  • Full Vehicle
  • Subsystems and components, including EV batteries

Structural and fatigue analysis

Simulation activities include:

  • Bending and torsional stiffness analysis
  • Modal and dynamic stiffness studies
  • Fatigue analysis of structures and weld points

Load cycles can be provided by the customer or developed by CSI based on its automotive expertise.

 The CAE service of CSI provides a full support to customers during all the vehicle development phases, from the Concept to the Homogolation/Self-Certification. CSI, known internationally as Euro NCAP laboratory and as a competence hub, with high experienced know-how and skills in the automotive field, offers its experience in the management of turn-key projects with a team of professionals assigned to the project.
