Road Safety Testing and ITS Systems Validation

In addition to automotive activities, CSI is actively involved in road safety and mobility research, supporting companies in the development and validation of safety devices and infrastructure.

CSI provides testing and certification services for road safety systems, including:

  • safety barriers, guardrails, terminals and crash cushions (EN 1317, AASHTO MASH, JTG B05-13)
  • motorcycle protection systems (CEN/TS 17342)
  • support structures (EN 12767)
  • vehicle security barriers (BSI PAS 68, ISO 22343, ASTM F2656)
  • safety nets (ASTM 2781)
  • noise barriers (EN 14388)

Road safety test track

CSI operates a dedicated test track with 6 equipped areas, enabling testing on different surfaces (soil, asphalt, reinforced concrete) at various impact speeds and angles.

Advanced testing capabilities include:

  • post pull-push tests
  • simplified impact testing with vehicles or instrumented dummies
  • strain gauge and load cell measurements
  • dynamic anchor pull-out tests

Smart roads and ITS systems

For smart mobility applications, CSI provides a controlled environment for testing:

  • V2I, V2V and I2X systems

Accredited laboratory services include:

  • testing of OBU (On Board Units) and RSE (Road Side Equipment) under Directive 2004/52/EC (EETS)
  • radio equipment testing according to Directive 2014/53/EU (RED)

CSI also offers:

  • ADAS testing
  • autonomous vehicle testing under expert supervision

 The CAE service of CSI provides a full support to customers during all the vehicle development phases, from the Concept to the Homogolation/Self-Certification. CSI, known internationally as Euro NCAP laboratory and as a competence hub, with high experienced know-how and skills in the automotive field, offers its experience in the management of turn-key projects with a team of professionals assigned to the project. The BU Conformity Assessment of CSI offers certification, inspection, testing and training services specific for the Automotive Sector. The training courses done by IMQ Group are a reference point in the training and continuing education of professionals and companies technical personeel for years. The cyber security in the automotive field impacts the protection of all the important elements in the vehicle from the treats to the IT safety: a cyber security assessment is required to analyse all the dangers and evaluate risks linked to the exposure to internet of the connected-car.
