The new emission test in real driving conditions (RDE – Real Driving Emissions) measure the pollution released by vehicles while driving.
The RDE don’t replace the WLTP laboratory test but It completes it. The RDE needs to confirm the WLTP results in the real life, guaranteeing that the vehicles produce low polluting emissions, not only in laboratory but also on the road. Europe is the first region to introduce road test, marking a milestone in the vehicle emission test.
While doing the test, the vehicle is driven on public roads and exposed to a wide range of different conditions. Specific equipment installed on the vehicle, collect data to verify that the regulatory limits for pollutants is not exceeded.
