RDE Emissions

Testing: On-Road Emissions Measurement

Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing measures pollutants produced by vehicles under real-world driving conditions, ensuring accurate environmental performance evaluation.

RDE complements the WLTP laboratory test, confirming that vehicles meet emission limits not only in controlled environments but also on the road.

How RDE testing works

During RDE tests:

  • Vehicles are driven on public roads under varying traffic, altitude, and temperature conditions
  • Advanced onboard equipment (PEMS) measures emissions in real time
  • Data ensures compliance with legal emission limits
